This restaurant in the Central House of Writers is at once a cultural phenomenon and museum: many 20th-century Russian writers and poets dined here. In the gothic Oak Hall of the Svyatopolk-Chetvertinsky Manor, a Masonic lodge supposedly met before the Revolution, while legend has it Bulgakov borrowed its decor for MASSOLIT in The Master and Margarita. The Motley Hall owes its name to the autographs of Rozhdestvensky, Voznesensky, and other figures from the 60s. In the 19th century, CDL abandoned the pass system, so you're welcome to drop by for stuffed chicken wings, a Pozharsky cutlet, and Kremlin-style syrniki. The Litfond still holds sway: in 2025, for instance, they hosted dinners with recipes from Gogol, Chekhov, and Dumas.
