Sangre Fresca translates from Spanish as «fresh blood», and the bravado is anything but empty — St. Petersburg luminaries from El Copitas, the most decorated bar team in Eastern Europe, joined forces with their partners to bring a strain of passionate Mexico to Patriarch's Ponds. The interior may not burst with color, as the atmosphere is more charged by the sensuous artwork of Dmitry Shorin, but they pour raicilla and sotol, tequila and mezcal. There's even a house ensamble made from three agave varieties by the López family, who are seventh-generation producers. They mix brilliant cocktails — Paloma and Margo, michelada and hot atole — and feed you just as imaginatively: churros and chimichangas, a crab burrito, quesadillas with truffle ricotta, and tacos with pineapple salsa.
