This is Soviet-era Russian nostalgia packaged by Alexander Rappoport into a top-tier modern restaurant: Malevich replicas, a soda-water machine, a cocktail served in a crystal matryoshka doll, and the bill delivered in a Palekh lacquer box. Red Square is visible from the windows, yet prices remain down to earth — and this «doctor» welcomes guests around the clock. Grandchildren bring grandparents for anniversaries, deputies drop in after sessions at the State Duma, and night owls stop by late or return in the morning for a hangover cure — Dr. Zhivago welcomes everyone at any hour, hence the endless menu. There are pies (big and small), blini (big and little), solyanka and skoblyanka, cutlets, juliennes, porridges and vareniki, kvass-seasoned greens, and assorted herring. Just don't forget the vodka (or a bottle of Don sparkling wine).
